Journal of Natural Resources is sponsored by the China Association for Science and Technology, and is co-organized by the China Society of Natural Resources and the Institute of Geographic Sciences and Natural Resources Research, Chinese Academy of Sciences. Four metrics of Journal of Natural Resources, including its latest CNKI composite impact factor of 11.873, rank first among all resource science journals in China. Its latest CNKI composite impact factor hits 11.873, setting an all-time record for Chinese journals covering geography and natural resources. Among the 4,293 academic journals of natural sciences and engineering technology evaluated by CNKI nationwide, it ranks the second overall in China.
Journal of Natural Resources has repeatedly won honors including the "Elite Sci-Tech Journals of China" and "Top 100 Outstanding Academic Journals of China". It is recognized as a core journal of Chinese natural sciences, a Chinese core journal of science and technology, a core journal in the Chinese Science Citation Database (CSCD), a core journal listed in the A Guide to the Core Journals of Chinese Literature (compiled by Peking University Library), and a source journal of the Chinese Social Sciences Citation Index (CSSCI) developed by Nanjing University. The journal has been selected for the Phase II Program of Excellence Action Plan for China STM Journals as one of the Leading Chinese Journals (only 100 Chinese journals nationwide qualify for this title), as well as the Capital Sci-Tech Journal Excellence Action Plan.
In the newly released Classification Catalogue of High-Quality Sci-Tech Journals in the Field of Geography and Natural Resources of China, Journal of Natural Resources is designated as a key journal in the comprehensive evaluation. It has been categorized into Tier T1 among 108 journals in physical geography, 116 journals in human geography, and 98 journals in natural resources respectively. Tier T1 refers to journals that approach or have reached the standards of world-class international journals.
Adhering to the journal-running philosophy of interdisciplinary integration and innovation, Journal of Natural Resources takes problem-oriented research as its core mission and commits itself to advancing academic research and practical applications in resource science and its related disciplines. Its authors and readership cover a wide spectrum of fields including resources, geography, ecology, environment, tourism, land science, urban studies, urban planning, architecture, public administration, business administration, law, economics, agriculture, landscape architecture and forestry, which fully demonstrates the comprehensive and interdisciplinary nature of resource science.
Taking it as its mission to serve major national strategic demands, Journal of Natural Resources has launched more than 50 important special issues on strategic themes such as territorial spatial planning since 2019, many of which have received official instructions from leading officials. The journal features a diverse and lively writing style. Beyond regular research papers, it has innovatively introduced various column formats including expert commentaries, expert interviews, and natural resource reviews, creating a multi-dimensional platform for academic exchanges and viewpoints sharing.
On the basis of high-quality journal publication and steady operation of its WeChat official account with two weekly newsletters, the journal has created innovative programs including the live stream series Vision of Natural Resources and the interview series Dialogues on Natural Resources (four episodes per month), as well as the documentary-style program Profiles of Natural Resources Pioneers.
