With the end of official media era, the traditional paper media was strongly shocked by the prevalence of new media with Wechat Public Account as a representative. Wechat Public Account could improve the academic influence and social visibility by increasing the viscosity of journal and readers. In order to provide guidance and references for other scientific Wechat Finance Platforms, the operational practice and experience of the periodical Wechat Finance Platform will be summed up, and comprehensive effects of Wechat operation on journal development will be stated by taking an example of Geographical Research based on the Wechat Public Account of Chinese Geographical and Resource Journals cluster. The results showed that: (1) Fourteen principles and eleven creative requirements should be followed in order to produce good Wechat. (2) Four points should be paid attention so as to run the cluster scientific Wechat Finance Platform better. Long-term persistence is needed for the production of good Wechat. To realize media convergence and the transition of traditional paper publishing to rich media publishing is the fundamental way out for scientific journals.

In order to improve the quality and the influence of Journal of Natural Resources (JNR), the authors searched papers published in JNR during 1986-2015 in CNKI as the source data and analyzed the characteristics of zero-cited papers. Changes in the number of published papers and the rate of zero-cited papers, the average download frequency and other related information, such as authors, subjects, funds and paper characteristics, were all taken into consideration. The results are as follows: 1) From quarterly journal to bimonthly and monthly journal, the number of published papers in JNR increased, but the rate of zero-cited papers did not increase. 2) These zero-cited papers were still downloaded, which means they have the possibility of being cited in the future. 3) As far as the information the first authors of the zero-cited papers were concerned, doctoral students take the most proportion, followed by master students, assistant professors and associate professors, and professors take the least proportion, and the authors from colleges/universities and scientific institutes are more than the authors from local departments. Most zero-cited papers were written by single author or authors from single institute. 4) Whether a paper was cited or not had little relation with the number and the type of funds. 5) The subjects of most zero-cited papers are pedology, geoscience, meteorology and environmental biology. Finally, several suggestions are given to reduce the rate of zero-cited papers through the cooperative control of authors, peer reviewers and journal editors.

Based on the Chinese S & T Journal Citation Reports (Natural Science), Chinese S & T Journal Citation Reports (Expanded Edition), Annual Report for Chinese Academic Journal Impact Factors (Natural Science) and Chinese Science Citation Database from 2013 to 2017, some important citation indicators of Journal of Natural Resources (JNR), such as total citations, impact factor, etc, were analyzed. In addition, the records of JNR papers indexed by some databases, the awards of JNR and JNR papers, and the records of JNR papers’ being reported and reproduced by other institutes and media were summarized. The results showed that: 1) The core impact factor, the expanded impact factor and the compound impact factor of JNR in 2016 were 1.912, 2.565年nd 3.250, and their growth rates from 2012 to 2016 reached 47.0%, 46.4%, 33.8%, respectively. 2) JNR had been indexed by all of the important databases in China and was indexed by Academic Search Ultimate of EBSCO in 2016. 3) JNR got 15年wards and was continuously supported by the project of “Outstanding Journals of Science and Technology Project of China Association for Science and Technology” during 2013-2017 and the Chinese Academy of Sciences Published Scientific Fund during 2014-2015. 4) Sixty-five papers published in JNR were selected as “Top Articles in Outstanding S & T Journal of China” during 2013-2017 and some papers were reported and reproduced by other institutes and media. This research can provide scientific basis for the development of JNR and references for the improvement of the quality of other Chinese journals in resources science.
