A STUDY ON THE DEVELOPMENT AND UTILIZATION DIRECTION OF THE LOW-LYING SALINE-ALKALI WASTELAND IN THE YELLOW RIVER IRRIGATION REGION IN NINGXIA

Abstract: There are more than one hundred thousand hectares of low-lying saline-alkali wasteland which remain unused for a long time in Ningxia. Through integrated evahiation of local resources conditions and comprehensive comparison of different developing-utilizing models,this paper suggests that the best way to exploit the wasteland is to set up a stereoecoagricultural system by digging pools to breed fish and constructing tableland for cultivation. This system will be helpful to the development of rural economy and the estabhshment of fishery bases in Northwest China.
