Abstract: Li and Rb values in 131 soil samples collected from 1982 to 1983 within an area of 60 km2 in the known hydrothermal active areas and their vicinity in Tengchong, Yunnan Province have been determined. The Li and Rb anomali es delineate two known hydrothermal active areas, rather consistent with the anomalies of the known geochemical indicator elements, including Hg As Sb Bi and B, and further confirm their prospects. At the same time Na and K values in hot waters of this field have also been determined and interpreted.Correlation analyses of Li, Rb and the known geochemical indicators are made. There exists a certain linkage between fossil geothermal systems and salt lakes. It is concluded that the presence of Li and Rb in soil could well be used to delineate geothermal fields, and geothermal systems could be exploited not only as energy resources, but also as mineral resources.
